SURFACE FINISHING
Smooth machining
With smooth machining, tool marks might still be visible, but it smooth’s the surface and minimize the risk of corrosion.

Introduction
Smooth machining is nearly the same as the machined surface finish with controlling CNC machining parameters such as low -feed rate and high cutting speed using sharp tools.
With smooth machining, tool marks might still be visible, but it smooth’s the surface and minimize the risk of corrosion. It is appropriate for metal & plastic parts that will be processed further for the surface finishing, such as painting or polishing.

Die Cast Industry: Status in 2026 and Trends by Segments
Die-casting is a process of creating metal components by forcing molten material into a reusable mold (called a die), where it fills the cavity and takes the shape upon solidification.

Use a quantified texture requirement for the surfaces that matter
Smooth machining is a process description, not an acceptance criterion. Identify the functional faces, the texture parameter and unit, directionality if relevant, critical geometry, and the instrument or method used to verify the requirement.
Engineering data to lock before release
| Functional area | Sealing, sliding, optical or visible machined faces |
|---|---|
| Texture data | Parameter, unit and evaluation area |
| Geometry data | Size/form controls independent of texture |
| Verification | Profilometer/comparator method and record |
Texture, waviness and form are different characteristics; select the measurement that matches the function being controlled.
