Introduction
Alodine (Also called Chromate conversion coating) refers to creating a small protective thin layer on the surface of substrate material using a solution containing chromium ions. The layer protects from corrosion and also provides aesthetic appeal with greenish-gold color.
It is a low-cost surface finishing approach to the parts with aluminum and their alloys. Parts are immersed into the bath for the coating, which is a rapid process applicable to complex components.

Make substrate preparation and downstream paint/bonding intent visible
Conversion coatings are often used to prepare aluminum for corrosion protection, paint adhesion or electrical-contact requirements. Define the substrate alloy, surface preparation, conversion process class if specified, masked areas and the next process in the sequence.
Engineering data to lock before release
| Substrate condition | Alloy, surface state and cleaning/preparation requirement |
|---|---|
| Functional purpose | Paint adhesion, corrosion support or electrical contact |
| Sequence data | Conversion coat before paint, bonding or assembly |
| Acceptance | Coverage, visual condition and agreed test/record |
Pretreatment and subsequent process sequence can govern performance as much as the conversion coating name itself.
