Introduction to Nylon
Nylon is a polyester fiber with outstanding strength and elasticity. It offers an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, a smooth surface, and excellent chemical and abrasion resistance. For the finished products, it provides strong tensile and fatigue strength. It can also endure tremendous stress and recover extremely quickly.
Nylon is washable, and various colors can be added for aesthetic purposes. The water resistance of Nylon is very high and does not get affected by most chemicals and oil. Nylon’s exceptional mechanical, chemical, and physical properties make it perfect for various applications, including parts near the engine, toys, tents, ropes, conveyors, seat belts, and clothing.

Design around grade, reinforcement and moisture-conditioned dimensions
Nylon properties and dimensions vary substantially with grade, fill and moisture condition. Identify the exact polymer, glass-fill state, operating environment, load duration and the conditioned dimensions that govern assembly fit.
Engineering data to lock before release
| Material identity | Nylon family, grade, fill percentage and color |
|---|---|
| Environment | Moisture, temperature and chemical exposure |
| Load data | Static/dynamic load and creep-sensitive geometry |
| Fit data | Conditioned dimensions and critical mating interfaces |
A dry-as-moulded measurement may not describe an in-service nylon assembly; define the intended condition before setting limits.
